Rock and Roll Photographer Jim Marshall Has Died, Age 74
Jim Marshall, the photographer responsible for some of the most famous photos of musicians from Johnny Cash to Jimi Hendrix died in his sleep March 23 in New York City. A resident of San Francisco, he had traveled to New York for the March 26 opening of “Match Prints,” an exhibit of his portraits alongside portraits by those of celebrity photographer Timothy White, at New York’s Staley-Wise Gallery.Monday, March 15, 2010

ICP's Infinity Awards

She and her two friends were murdered by the mafia for not respecting their rules, Palermo, 1982 © Letizia Battaglia, from the book Passion Justice Freedom: Photographs of Sicily (Aperture, 1999ICP's Infinity Awards were inaugurated in 1984 to bring public attention to outstanding achievements in photography by honoring individuals with distinguished careers in the field and by identifying future luminaries.
The Cornell Capa, Lifetime Achievement, and Trustees Award recipients are selected by ICP's Board of Trustees, President's Council, or staff. Other recipients are chosen by a Selection Committee from the submissions of a rotating International Nominating Committee.
The Infinity Awards ceremony is ICP's primary fund-raising benefit, and the revenues generated assist the full range of the Center's programs, including exhibitions, collections, community outreach, and the School at ICP.

POYi's Documentary Project of the Year
Picture of the Year International's Documentary Project of the Year prize went to Reuters for "Times of Crisis," an in-depth examination of the global financial crisis that the wire service produced in conjunction with MediaStorm.The top editing prize, called the Angus McDougall Overall Excellence in Editing Award, went to the Los Angeles Times. Judges said they gave the paper the award "for its consistent approach and dedication to photojournalism in both print and multimedia." More . . .
